1 nickel = 5 cents

1 quarter = 25 cents

Let the number of nickels be = n

Let the number of quarters be = q

As mentioned, Chris has 4 times as many nickels as quarters

so, n=4q ----- (1)

The coins have a combined value of 180 cents, so

[tex]5n+25q=180[/tex]   ----- (2)

Putting n=4q in equation (2)

[tex]5(4q)+25q=180[/tex]

[tex]20q+25q=180[/tex]

[tex]45q=180[/tex]

[tex]q=4[/tex]

Hence, quarters are 4

As, n=4q

[tex]n=4\times4=16[/tex]

Hence, nickels are 16
