We are trying to find an equation in y=mx+b form

Okay so we know two points on the graph,  from which we can get the slope (value of m) by the formula [tex]\frac{y_{2} -y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}[/tex]

plugging in the values:  [tex]\frac{6 -1}{8-9}[/tex]

the resulting slope is -5

to find our b value we can plug in one of our coordinants into the equation and solve for b

1 = -5(9) + b

1 = -45 + b

46 = b

so our equation in y = -5x + 46
