Hi Emily,

How does a speaker/writer appeal to our pathos (our emotions)? There are many ways. For instance, let's think about a speech from Speaker A.

Speaker A starts telling a story about a homeless man and how his brother was once homeless. He may also describe the homeless man as "hopeless" and "weak." Why did the speaker choose to do this?

What techniques are used in this passge to make the audience feel emotion?

  • A personal story
  • Emotional language such as "hopeless"
  • Etc..
