Step 2

Using the elimination method.

[tex]\begin{gathered} x+y=9 \\ + \\ x-y=2 \\ --------- \\ 2x\text{ +0=11} \end{gathered}[/tex]

Hence,

[tex]\begin{gathered} 2x=11 \\ x=\frac{11}{2} \\ x=5.5 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Answer;

[tex]x=5.5[/tex]
