20/ 4 = 5
5 x 3 = 15
He uses 15 pounds of sugar.
20 - 15 = 5
He has 5 pounds of sugar left.

If he uses 3/4 of the sugar, he has 1/4 left
1/4 of 20 is 20÷4= 5 pounds of sugar is what he has left
