    Greek vase painting told stories of gods and heroes of Greek mythology or recounted contemporary events, such as wars and feasts.

    The red-figure style, which began around 530 a. C., inverted the color scheme of the black figures. The figures, outlined against the black background, were composed of the natural red clay with the details painted in black.
